The workshop will be held in German. If you would like to participate in English, please let us know when you register.
How does an observation become vivid writing? And why is it often the smallest details that make a piece of journalism distinctive and memorable?
In this workshop, we’ll explore our surroundings with open eyes, ears and all our senses. We’ll collect sounds, smells, colours, movements, moods and unexpected details – and discover just how much material for writing is right there in front of us.
Through practical exercises, we’ll turn our impressions into precise, vivid descriptions. The aim isn’t to write as “beautifully” as possible, but to look closely and translate what we perceive into language in a way that allows others to picture it too. We’ll explore which details can capture the character of a place, a situation or a person, and how observation can create atmosphere.
In this way, our immediate surroundings become both a source of inspiration and a laboratory for writing. The exercises will show how close observation can enrich your own style and make journalistic writing more concrete, distinctive and vivid.
