Nowadays, anyone who runs a social media account, writes a blog, or produces a podcast is, in effect, a media owner. With that status come not only specific rights, but also specific responsibilities.
When does copyright protect a piece of writing, and when does it protect an image? Who owns a YouTube video? What are the legal limits when taking photographs in public spaces? Where does legitimate criticism end and insult begin? What distinguishes fact from opinion?
Walter Strobl explains the key principles of copyright and media law and addresses the practical questions that arise in everyday media work. He provides reliable guidance through the often confusing web of legal rules — for everyone working in traditional or digital media.
Speaker
Walter Strobl is a lawyer, lecturer, and co-author of Medien.Recht.Ethik, published by COMMIT. Since 2021, he has headed the Journalism Legal Service at Presseclub Concordia. He combines extensive expertise in copyright and media law with many years of experience in media management and teaching.
