Typoton ist ein offener Rahmen für jede Idee, die Schrift zum Thema macht und die Verbindung zum akustischen Medium Radio nützen möchte.

Da Schrift ein visuelles Medium ist und dem Radio die widersprüchlich scheinende Begrenzung des ›nicht-zeigen-Könnens‹ eigen ist, liegen die erste Herausforderung und der Reiz darin, Worte für Formen zu finden.
Die einzelnen Sendungen bestehen im Regelfall aus einem inhaltlichen Fokus, dem Thema sowie aus sich wiederholenden Programmpunkten: ›Musik‹, ›Spiel‹ und ›Vertont‹ – in Zwischenschaltung erscheint das ›Lexikon‹ zur Erläuterung verschiedener Begriffe. Das Konzept sieht die Verquickung der Medien RADIO (akustisch) und INTERNET (visuell) vor. Gemeinsam mit der Radiosendung entsteht eine Website, die zeigt, was nur gezeigt werden kann und mit der Sendung in dynamischer Verbindung steht. Die Ergänzung zum Benennen formaler Eigenschaften (Vertonung von Formen) ist als logische Schlussfolgerung die visuelle Gestaltung nach akustischen Reizen (Verbildlichung von Ton), wird in Form des Programmpunktes ›Spiel‹ praktiziert und schließt den Kreis.

typoton is an open stage to present any ideas with type as focus and the appetence to use the acustic medium radio. because of the limitation of radio that ›you can not show‹ – and type exists to be seen – it seems to be contradictory to treat of the topic type (a visual medium) on the radio (an acustic medium).

but this startingpoint is the exciting challenge and attraction of the project: to find words for shapes (in this act of naming you can find the potential of realization). the single broadcasts are normally composed of a theme as body and the continual emerging categories ›musik‹ (music), ›spiel‹ (game) and ›vertont‹ (set something visual to sound) – in between and if necessary the ›lexikon‹ (encyclopaedia) appears to define not commonly used terms. the concept includes the combination of the medias radio and internet: together with the radio broadcast there is a website growing to show what only can be shown, to collect the encyclopaedia entries and to document. at least the completion of ›naming of formal attributes‹ is the implication ›designing shapes in inspiration of sounds‹, which is practised in the category ›spiel‹ and shown on the website.
