Clear Spot – The Long Night Of Yeast

"in the series out of space into the radio": a production by Knut Aufermann

"A couple of days ago Knut Aufermann came up with a funny idea of recording the slow process of wine-making and offerd his piece to us. I thought that this is something a Viennese based radio-station has to broadcast and ecourage everybody to listen to this with a glas of wine in her/his hand and the solitude of good wine of the Mosel-region. A place the Austrians don't seem visit very often, but is worth exploring."
Lale Rodgarkia-Dara

Every autumn thousands of wine cellars in the Mosel valley, Germany's premier wine growing region, turn into magnificent sound installations. Freshly pressed grape juice starts fermenting in barrels and the escaping gas bubbles through glass u-pipes, each barrel at its own speed. Mobile Radio set up seven microphones in the wine cellar of bio-dynamic winemakers Rudolf & Rita Trossen in the village of Kinheim to capture and broadcast these fermentation sounds, documenting the work of yeast turning juice into wine. This recording was made from midnight to 1am on 5th November 2013.
