Alex Salam gives insights to daily life on an Antarctic Research Station Part2

Interview with Alex Salam Part 2

Sandra Häuplik-Meusburger talked to Alex Salam a Medical Doctor, who was living and researching for 13 month - between 2008 and 2010 – at Concordia Station for the European Space Agency. He was investigating the effects of extreme isolation, confinement and stress on the human immune system, behavioural health, and sleep as relevant to long duration space missions and inter-planetary travel.
The Concordia Station is a permanent all-year research facility on the high Antarctic plateau. It is one of the most extreme and remote places on Earth. Main research fields are glaciology, atmospheric sciences, astronomy and astrophysics, Earth sciences, technology and human biology and medicine.
