Radio remains an important medium for bringing music to the people. The music programming on community radios is characterized by the search for new sounds, diversity, and the goal of making niches more audible. Community radios aim to provide a platform for music and musicians who receive little or no airplay on commercial and public broadcasters.
A radio station's music database is a powerful tool for implementing these objectives. Its design plays a key role in determining what is ultimately heard on the radio. The study provides an overview of who decides which tracks are added to a radio's music archive, who is involved in the selection process, and how radio producers gain access to it. This is the first time these perspectives have been presented in an overview. The situation at the Vienna-based community radio ORANGE 94.0 was analyzed in comparison with other examples in Austria and abroad.
Together with the project partners EDUCULT and mica – music austria, Radio ORANGE 94.0 invites you to the presentation of the study results, followed by space for exchange.
When: December 4, 18:00
Where: mica – music austria, Stiftgasse 29, 1070 Vienna
